Looking Back Over the Future

AdviserBlast – Quick Tips to Accelerate Your Practice

In this issue: Looking back over 2010, what is it that will make the year spectacular?

Whether writing a holiday newsletter for family and friends or just enjoying the slower pace between Christmas and the New Year, December can be a great time to reflect on the past year.

What will your reflections look like this time next year? Whether you’ll be at work between Christmas and New Year or you’ll be taking a complete break from your office, take advantage of this time of reviewing to also reflect on the future – not just what you plan to do in business, but in your personal life as well. Actually set some time now on your calendar over the coming weeks for some “You in 2010 Time.”

During this time, imagine it is December next year – the final weeks of 2010. Complete the following statements:

“2010 has been an awesomely successful year because:

  • (Spouse’s/Partner’s name) and I . . .
  • (Children’s names) and I . . .
  • Health-wise, I achieved . . .
  • Spiritually, I grew through . . .
  • In my business, I . . .”

(Notice business definitely makes the top four, but comes after personal relationships, health and spiritual growth! Plan on balance in your life!)

Click on this link to access the TARGET Goal worksheet I use with clients, as well as an explanation for how you can use these. These are my gift to you, but know that for a gift to be useful it must opened! Print the sheets and jot down some initial ideas.

After you’ve taken the time to consider seriously what you’d like to be able to say about 2010 in retrospect, complete these sheets for the various areas of your life. Keep them where you can quickly scan them each day or so, and move forward into 2010, rested, ready and raring to go.
