Shortly we’ll be celebrating my dad’s 90th birthday, and he’s doing great. As we’re getting closer to that time, and especially around this Thanksgiving season, it’s made me really think about how thankful I am for him and Mum and just how much input they’ve had into my life. How much encouragement they’ve given me, how much guidance they’ve given me, how much they financed my entire swimming career, which I am super thankful for!
It’s a wonderful time of year here in the US now. (We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving in New Zealand.) This time in this country is a great opportunity to slow down and think about those people who have had great influence in your lives. It might be a friend. It might be a parent. It might be a family member. And take time to let them know how thankful and appreciative you are of how they’ve impacted your life. It may be someone you’ve been following on social media who’s provided really helpful advice, even if they don’t know you personally.
Just send them a note. Send them a little card thanking them for this particular podcast episode where you got tremendous value and benefit from the guest that they interviewed and the questions they asked them. Whoever it might be, let them know that they’re top of mind right now for you, especially at this time of year, and how thankful you are for them. Remember those people closest to you, those people who have supported you throughout your career. Look, none of us, none of us succeed on our own. And so, especially this time of year, think about those people who you’re most thankful for, and let them know that they are top of mind and top of heart.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
