Business-building ideas and advice to move you forward faster.
Don’t try to be top of mind. Instead just focus on being helpful.
Recently I was asked by an advisor how best to remain top-of-mind for a potential center of influence he hoped to work for. I pressed a little deeper and asked him, “How do people stay top of mind for you?” He replied, “People who have provided me with help.”
There was the answer. Instead of trying to remain top-of-mind with people you’d like to work with, just be helpful. You don’t have to worry about trying to be gimmicky to do that. If you find something helpful to you, understand why it is helpful and how to then pass that onto people you’d like to work with.
For instance, I recently got the book The One Thing, by Gary Keller. I really enjoyed reading this book myself and got a lot out of it. So, what I did was order copies for people who I knew were in the same position as me: small business owners who want to grow their business. I highlighted the pieces that were helpful to me and then sent them a copy. They don’t have time, often, to read the entire book, so I just alerted their attention to the parts I found most helpful. This is an easy step to genuinely help people you care about.
That way, not only will you be top of their mind, but you’re going to be super helpful, which in turn, is going to ensure you stay top-of-mind, for the right reasons.
I look forward to bringing you another Distraction-Proof Advisor Idea next week.
Don’t rely on gimmicks to stay top of mind with prospects. Simply provide them real help and stay on their minds by default.
