February’s Coming! Are You Ready?

AdvisorBlast – Quick Tips to Accelerate Your Practice

In this issue: How to keep your time from slipping away.

Does time seem to be moving unusually fast? Are your days unexpectedly slipping by? I’ve heard many people this week say they can’t believe that January is already 1/3 gone. Maybe you’ve heard similar comments. (Maybe you’re making them!)

But days aren’t being secretly erased from our calendars. The first quarter of the year moves quickly, yet minutes still have 60 seconds, days still have 24 hours, and months still average 30 days. What are you doing with them?

The best way to make your time count is to determine where you wish to be at a set time – let’s say 90 days from now. Once you decide where you’re going, it means doing things on purpose to move you toward your 90-day objective. This should, in turn, be about a quarter of your over-arching 12-month goal.

If your ideas of what you want to achieve in your business in 2013 are still vague aspirations, it’s time to get specific.

If you’ve already set your 2013 business goals and are on your way to achieving your Q1 targets, great job! How are things looking on the personal front – building relationships with loved ones or taking care of yourself physically?

You may already know TARGET Goals are my favorite way to set goals for all areas of life because they have all the necessary elements to get you going toward real progress (realistic action, effective measurement of your progress, and a deadline). I want you to be able to use this method too, so here is a link to more specific instructions on how to use this method and download my blank TARGET Goal sheet, a free gift to you.

Use these as often as you need to, for different areas of your life. I’d encourage you to have one or two for your physical goals for the year. Take your time to create one for your key relationships. Have several for your business objectives.

Keep the sheets close, read them each day, and know that every day counts toward achieving your objective. When you have specific aims and deadlines in place, you’ll more easily see the distractions that come your way and be able to overcome them.

Time keeps moving, and the future becomes the past before you know it. Set your objective. Schedule a deadline. Make a plan and get going so you don’t find yourself surprised when it is mid-February already!

Have fun,
Paul
